Hypnos, is the personification of sleep in Greek mythology, he is also the sibling of death. It is from Hypnos, that the word hypnosis is derived. I think we have all had the experience of losing ourselves for a while in a film, or binge-watched a whole series on Netflix (I know I have). Sometimes a whole evening disappears and we can’t even remember what it is we watched, a whole
chunk of time, a chunk of our lives gone, never to be retrieved. We were in thrall, hypnotised by what was on offer.

I feel as if very large aspects of our culture are like that, advertising, status, money and fame, calling us this way and that way, showing us an array of enticing, but flickering images. All the while our lives get spent until one day we don’t know where the years went, and rather than spending further time with Hypnos, we have an appointment to keep with his brother. So, maybe pull the plug a little more before your plug gets pulled! ;)
