The image of the mother and child has been
part of human consciousness throughout the
ages and across cultures. This painting is a take
on this timeless motif using contemporary
subjects. The piece explores the immense sense
of meaning and purpose which motherhood
can provide, along with a complete surrendering
of the self to the needs of the child. At the same
time this portrays how a mother’s unfulfilled
desires for herself and for her own life can become
transferred on to her child, who in turn is now the
one who must face the future and carry the burden
of fulfilling her desires. Now she too has become
part of the cycle."
