The National Gallery of Art, Washington DC. This painting takes the collection of the National Gallery of Art: Washington DC as its subject matter. Over the past four years DC has served as my home for 18 months, as a result it has become a museum collection that I now feel very close to. Although the collection is divided between Ancient and Modern between two all be it interconnected buildings, in my mind it is one seamless collection. This painting places works from the two buildings on one space, letting us view the old with the new and the light, Roy Lichtenstein’s Donald Duck against Anselm Kiefer’s dark Military Aircraft. In the background is a dim memory of a strange still life by Antoine Vollon who places ‘A Mound of Butter’ centre stage.
