Chichester Festival (CFT) and Minerva Theatres are world-renowned; but there is huge demand for a third small, studio theatre to offer a programme for a younger audience in support of Chichester’s night time economy; to provide a base for our Emerging Artists Development Programme; and a space for CFT’s ever-increasing community programme, such as our work with vulnerable adults, our Technical Youth Theatre, and early years (ages 0-3) activities.
The Nest is a major part of our new Artistic Director Justin Audibert’s vision for CFT to support artists at the start of their careers, including local writers and performers – thus fuelling the future national creative workforce. This is a robust offering locally, but we also confidently stand our ground as a national cultural leader and change maker.
The core of the new building will be an existing temporary structure and by reusing an existing building, sustainability is at the core of the project. The structure will be usable year-round and fully wheelchair accessible. The layout is based around a three-sided thrust, flat floor stage with removable stacked seating for up to 119 people.
