Inspired by the Buddhist story of Avalokiteshvara (or in the Tibetan language, Chenrezig) the Bodhisattva, who was so moved by all the sounds of all the suffering beings in all the worlds, that they were shattered into limitless pieces so that each piece contained the whole and could go to where it was needed. Some of the images of this Bodhisattva are made with 11 faces so as to see, respond and communicate in all directions and 1000 arms and hands, each holding an object that can help relieve the suffering of myriad beings. For me personally, this story speaks to me on the level of the human heart, in so much that I believe a broken heart is an open heart and an open heart can embrace the pain of others from a place of deep, mutually beneficial understanding. We are potentially all have a Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara because we all have a heart.
