I had to shadow The Queen and Her Gentlemen
at Arms for their Quincentenary year of 2009.
I became adept at finding nooks and crannies
down numerous corridors of power, where I could
feast my gaze on a hidden world, and sketch
behind closed doors. As the Monarch she has
been painted on many occasion, however, her
Elizabeth Windsor persona is even more guarded.
In my sketches of her, this is the characteristic
I searched for."
