David Harkins studied Social Anthropology at the University of Edinburgh, which later lead him to take on a Psychodynamic Counselling Diploma at Goldsmiths College, University of London. He then completed his MA in Fine Art at the University of Brighton in 2002.
Harkins describes his work as ‘’reflections on the moth eaten tapestry of life!”. A psychologist at heart, he explores states of mind, particularly the affects of the natural world on the human psyche. Although the majority of his work is abstract, the addition of a ‘shadowy figure’ has appeared in a number of his works. The figure, Harkins states, is inspired by jigsaw pieces, “how we are literally a part of our environment, and our environment is a part of us”.
