Françoise Gilot (b.1921; with Picasso 1944-1953) Françoise was Picasso's sixth muse, an law student when she met Picasso in a cafe in 1943—he was 62, she was 22. While he was still married to Olga Khokhlova, Gilot and Picasso had an intellectual attraction that led to romance. They kept their relationship a secret at first, but Gilot moved in with Picasso after a few years and they had two children, Claude and Paloma.

Françoise grew tired of his abuse and affairs and left him in 1953. Eleven years later, she wrote a book about her life with Picasso, recalling their nine-year relationship Life with Picasso. In 1970, she married American physician and medical researcher, Jonas Salk, who created and developed the first successful vaccine against polio. and recalled their nine-year relationship in the best-selling Life with Picasso.
