During the first 2020 lockdown Giorgia painted a series called ‘Community’, a response to what she observed happening in her London neighbourhood. During this third lockdown in 2021 Giorgia has painted a more intimate series, called ‘You and Me’. She says that while birds typically evoke thoughts of freedom, the pair of birds showing up on her canvas seemed to find themselves repeatedly in a constrained space - perhaps inevitable after a year of successive lockdowns. As the series progressed, she realised the birds were her and her partner, in companionship, at home, day after day, discovering how to navigate these times together, just like millions of similar couples around the world.
