Claudia Clare is a ceramicist and writer based in London. Author of Subversive Ceramics (Bloomsbury 2015), she contributes regularly to Ceramic Review and was co-author, with Edmund de Waal of The Pot Book (2011). Clare is known for her large-scale, slip-painted, eathernware jars that depict scenes that show the impact of major events on the lives of ordinary people.
In her 2012 solo exhibition, Jackie Wüllschlager of the Financial Times wrote "Grayson Perry and Edmund de Waal are not the only British potters. As this first solo exhibition proves, Claudia Clare is an inventive, accomplished, provocative artist who makes the ancient craft of ceramics contemporary and topical, wittily fusing medium, form and message."
